I tried to save her.

Not the version of me that exists now,
but the one from before 
before I learned how to fight,
before I knew how to breathe through pain.
But I was too late.
She had died before I could reach her.

I thought I was killing the past
But instead, I found a monster 
alive, pulsing, wrapped in shadows and thorns.
It had always lived inside me.

I didn’t destroy it.
I claimed it as mine.

Because the power I need doesn’t come from peace.
It rises from rage, from sorrow, from every scars
from everything that tried to break me and failed.
She died so I could be born.
And now I wear her pain like armor.
