Shining pyramids

The father of our house was never a father.
We called him "Father" only out of habit.
He was our teacher and his lessons were clear:
Lie. Be enemies. If needed, burn each other to survive.
He said if there is food, it’s not yours.
Stay alive with a crust of bread.

We didn’t know what dreams were.
The word love frightened us.
One day, one of my sisters wrote I love you in her notebook.
Not to him. Not to anyone. Just on paper.
He saw it. That day, he broke the notebook and her hands.

He was no longer a pillar for us.
Just a shadow of darkness and filth.
He had turned the house into hell
And our hearts into ash.

But that night, something inside me shattered.
Half of me trembled, whispering: endure this dog’s life, there’s no escape.
But the other half rose, quiet and relentless.
It stepped forward without fear.

He was sitting there as always,
Swollen with pride made of sludge.
I approached.
He didn’t even look up.
He never imagined that the silence he'd built with whips
Would one day turn into a blade.

And with that same blade
I tore open his chest
With my own hands
Hands dripping with his filthy blood
And I pulled it out.

Not a heart. Not a soul.
But a pyramid of darkness
Of lies
Of poison.

And for the first time
The house breathed
And we...
We became human...
