Landscapes

Largely inspired by the biblical narrative of the crossing of the Red Sea, this landscape is intended to capture the perspective from the eyes of Moses as he approached the eastern shore. As a sign of hope for the rest of their journey to come, a single fig tree stands glimmering alone at the end of their escape from the chains of Egypt.

Parting of the Waters

It's WAR day! (Wild Animals' Race day) The streets of the "old town" are cleared and closed off to traffic, as village dwellers, rich and poor, gather to watch the monthly event. All bets are off! As per the sacred ancient tradition, all are required to place a minimum wager on their favourite team, sharing the proceeds with the Royal Treasury for the development of the area represented by the animal they had picked (rhino for war efforts, ostrich for cultural investment, elephant for aid to the destitute...).
This month's race, by chance, attendance was rather weak on account of the much-awaited concert taking place next door, within the oldest standing structure of the old town. As if that were not enough, one of the odd wandering fellows, whom the people in those parts called "wizards", unwittingly sows chaos at the finish line. 
By the outskirts of town, beyond the Royal Gamblery, the dangerous Thieves' Ward harbours the ill-favoured and ne'er-do-wells of the village, but nearly mingling with it are the upper class villas, neatly packed in rows until they reach the village wall.
Southward, a small canal serves as passageway for the strange fisher-folk of the Wetlands, a small realm long under the crown of the Royal House, but where wilderness abounds and their people delight above all in the modest sport of fishing and rice-wine drinking.
